GW170817 - Italian contributions to the dawn of the multi-messenger astronomy

From November 29th to December 1st - 2017
GSSI - Main Lecture Hall
Viale Crispi, 7 - L'Aquila

Abstract

On August 17, 2017 the first observation of gravitational-waves from a binary system of neutron stars was achieved by the Advanced Virgo and LIGO detector network.
This was the first astrophysical transient observed with both gravitational waves and light.
The Italian community played a key role with the Virgo interferometer and the multi-wavelength electromagnetic observational campaign performed by ground-based and space facilities. The workshop wants to bring together the Italian community to discuss the scientific results and the prospects for the upcoming years. A full day workshop devoted to science will be held on November 30.
Connected to the one-day science workshop there will be two half-day GRAvitational Wave Inaf TeAm (GRAWITA - https://www.grawita.inaf.it) operative workshops to discuss results, lessons learned and short and long term GRAWITA plans.
